Three Small Changes after the Jam

After the wonderful Create Jam Spring 2022, we had finished a game that was short and sweet, and working pretty well all things considered.

The Last Stand at the Strawberry Shortcake fits our vision  of what we wanted to make pretty well, and in general there is no need to improve endlessly on finished projects.

However, one criticism we heard from almost everyone who played it was the flower pickup. Flowers are picked up when the mouse is over them, but only one or two at a time. A fix of this turned out to be just moving two function calls around.

Then, there was the matter of a win-screen. When we finished the game at the jam, it could be played endlessly. However, at a certain point, the player would either be overrun, or be so powerful that no number of ants could ever pass through. Besides, everyone likes to be told they are a winner.

Lastly, there is a small nerf of Frida Frog. During the jam, we tried shortening her animation, so that she would catch fewer ants per tongue-flick. But bafflingly, she seemed to ignore any decrease we made to the hard-coded delay value and gobble up ants as greedy as ever. This turned out to be a rounding error, and though still formidable, the frog is now a bit less of a win-button.
